| Name: | Lavi (OU) |
|---|---|
| Birthdate: | 1989-08-10 |
| Location: | (states/regions/territories) |
Character: Lavi (Which is an alias, the 49th, but the real name is unknown. He's also been called Deak in a flashback-like scene, but it's unclear as to whether Deak was the name of the 48th alias or his actual name.)
Series/Fandom: D. Gray-Man
Original or Alternate: Original
Age: Eighteen
Gender: Male
Species: Human, unless Bookman counts as a separate species (he sometimes refers to humans like he isn't one)
Sexuality: Bisexual
Appearance: Lavi is a mongrel, so he doesn't fit any racial stereotypes. In fact, he looks quite unique.
First thing most people notice would probably be Lavi's hair. It's bright red, and held up in spikes tilting to one side by his headband. When down, it covers most of the right side of his face, and frames the other side. The aforementioned headband is black with green-ish and yellow designs on it, I believe. Next would be the eyes - or rather, eye. Lavi's right eye is always covered by a simple, black eyepatch. His left one is green. A tattoo of sorts showed up under the eyes at one point, extending under the eyepatch, but that was only one occassion.
Five foot ten in height and 68 kilograms in weight. I would assume that's about average body type, and on the taller side.
For outfits, he's willing to wear mostly anything, I would imagine. Back in his normal world, he'd be wearing his Exorcist's coat for the most part, but when he transferred, he was wearing simple black clothes, and he probably wouldn't bother with requisitioning the coat. There's no reason to wear it, since nobody in the real world would recognize it. The headband and eyepatch are still with him, though.
Personality: Lavi acts happy-go-lucky most of the time, joking about, teasing his friends, and generally being the comic relief character in the series. He talks extensively about anything and everything, though complaining is a somewhat common occurence. It's mostly just for something to talk about, though. On another conversation-related note, Lavi seems to be fond of giving nicknames to people, calling Bookman "Panda", Krowry "Kro-chan" or "Krorykins", an altered akuma of Cross's "Chomesuke", and Kanda by his first name, "Yuu", much to his chagrin. He also called Allen "Moyashi" at one point, adopting Kanda's nickname for him. Lavi is also, um, really interested in women. When he sees one his type, he'll yell, "Strike!"
That's normally, though, which means when there aren't issues. Lavi can and does act mature when needed, much more so than one of his age should be able to, probably due to all he's experienced and learned as a Bookman-in-training. He's been shown to care for his friends a lot, and attempts to carry all the burden for them, willing even to sacrifice his own life to save them. His friends being in danger are probably also the only reason he'll ever lose his temper, as he did when he'd believed Tyki'd killed Allen.
That's the current Lavi, though. When Lavi first arrived at the Black Order, he had considered himself as separate from those there, superior to them. He'd only gone to the Black Order with Bookman because they were making a record of the war between the Exorcists and Earl, and being on one side would supply them with the best access to the goings-on of the war. He had given up his heart (metaphorically speaking, I'd assume) and name when becoming a Bookman, and therefore had no "real" emotions. The Lavi described earlier was nothing but an act, and all he felt toward humans was contempt and indifference. They were nothing but ink on paper.
Abilities/Strengths: Lavi is actually really knowledgeable, despite his tendency to act stupid sometimes. He has to be, since he's a Bookman-to-be. Lavi has been through 48 aliases, each of which was used to record a seemingly notable event in history, and each of which has provided him with different experiences. Due to these, he's learned quite a lot about humans and their history, and probably reads and studies on Bookman's orders as well.
To top that, he's also got a really good memory. "Really good" as in perfect, or just short of it. He may only have one eye, but he was able to identify one key that he'd only seen for a short time before among tons of others that looked very nearly identical. He also said that he could've found it faster had he used the other eye.
As an Exorcist, he's also gained synchronization with Innocence, a type of material that chooses apostles of God. His Innocence is a size-shifting hammer, which he uses for fighting by summoning seals or simply physically attacking, and transportation. His isn't a particularly special Innocence, though, and recently has been broken.
Personality-wise, his greatest asset would probably be loyalty, but his past self considers that more of a flaw, since Bookmen are supposed to be detached.
Weaknesses: Lavi loses his temper and common sense easily when his friends are threatened, and overall shows way too much emotion to reach his goal of being a Bookman. If you care about someone, you can be hurt by them, and when he'd believed Allen dead, it was obvious that he was hurt. Not detached at all. The interest in females is also somewhat of a weakness, since it could distract him, such as in the cases of Lulubelle and Eliade.
Notable Possessions: Odzuchi Kodzuchi, Lavi's hammer and Innocence. It size-shifts, which is useful for transportation, or attacking with blunt force, since the hammer's weight changes with the size. The weight difference doesn't affect Lavi, though, since he's the Innocence's conformer. The hammer also have seals, some of which he probably doesn't know how to use yet. The seals have various effects, such as Flame Seal, which summon flames, Heaven Seal, which summons lightning, and Wood Seal, which controls nature. He's also been known to combine seals.
Other notable possessions would probably be articles of clothing, but the only entirely consistent one would be the eyepatch. He's never been seen without it.
History:
Lavi became a Bookman apprentice when he was younger, and since has been traveling with Bookman. His real name was given up when he became Bookman's apprentice, so he now uses aliases for each of the recordings.
Lavi is the 49th alias. He and Bookman came to the Order to record of the war between the Exorcists and Earl from the front lines, and was supposed to be neutral. When he'd first joined, he was detached, uncaring, arrogant, as described before, but as years passed at the Order, he slowly found himself drifting closer to the people he'd looked down upon so easily before.
During the series, Lavi first showed up when Allen's eye had been destroyed by Rhode. He, as well as Lenalee and Bookman later accompanied Allen on the search for Cross. In the process, they recruited Arystar Krowry, a vampire-like Exorcist, who then joined them. Allen separated from the group in China due to the loss of his Innocence, so Lavi, Lenalee, and Krowry continued on towards Japan, joined by Miranda Lott, yet another Exorcist, and led by Anita, a mistress of a brothel, acquaintance of Cross, and supporter of the Black Order. On the boat trip to Japan, they were met by several akuma, one of which was a Level 3. The akuma would've killed nearly all the crew members, but Miranda's Innocence had "stopped time", somewhat, and their deaths were delayed until the group of Exorcists got to Japan and Miranda left.
In Japan, the Exorcists were met by the Earl, Noahs, and a lot of akuma. Lavi quickly recognized Tyki, who he'd believed had killed Allen. Enraged, he'd attacked head-on and was beaten quite badly - knocked through a roof, to be exact. He and the others are saved by General Tiedoll's group and Allen, but along with Kanda and Allen, and excluding Miranda and B, end up getting dragged into the Ark. Then follows a series of one-on-one battles between Exorcists and Noahs, the Exorcist trying to get to the escape door and the Noahs trying to kill them. First to leave is Kanda, then Krowry. Lavi, Allen, Lenalee, and Chaoji, one of Anita's crew members, make it to the top tower which held the door, but are met by Rhode and Tyki, two Noahs. Allen faces off with Tyki while Lavi fights against his past self, Deak, in Rhode's dream world. In the Dream World, Lavi's past cold nature is revealed, but the change is also shown when Lavi overreacts over the illusions of the dead bodies of his friends. His heart was supposedly destroyed, but he manages to gain back control of his body from his past self, which had begun attacking Allen, and he then uses the flame seal, planning to kill Rhode even if he was killed too. Rhode, who had previously not been affected by any attacks, was made tangible because Lavi'd stabbed the "real" Rhode in the Dream World, where she had been disguised as Allen. Rhode was burned alive and stabbed, but Lavi had been saved because Allen jumped in and used his Crown Clown as a shield for both of them.
Tyki went berserk and started attacking the two, but was stopped by Cross. The Millenium Earl showed up soon after to rescue Tyki from Cross, and in the Earl's entrance, Lavi fell down through the ground, which was cracked and disintegrating. He was believed dead, but Allen managed to restore the Ark and all the Exorcists that had been there, so they escaped safely back to the Order.
